 My columns, I hope and intend, have a consistent feminist perspective.

This one will explore an issue too long hidden but which is essentially a foundational feminist issue: the trafficking for sex and labour of girls in Ontario.

Sexual exploitation and human trafficking of young women are long-standing and complex realities, but it now needs new attention and community awareness as the numbers are rising.

The Durham Regional Police Service reports that it has helped 41 girls in the first six months of the year who were trying to leave the pimps who had lured them. The executive director of Victim Services for Peterborough-Northumberland, Emily Poulin, reports they have had 77 clients in 2018-19.
