As a global feminist, with the same revulsion towards and worry about Trumpocracy as so many other Canadians, I can't let the week of January 25 go by without a crow of joy.
Just look at the marches - the staying power: thousands and thousands on the streets, walking not only against the appalling public ethos emanating from the White House, which infects the airwaves, and foments bitter divides in the States, but the firm announcing by feet on the ground that things are indeed connected.
When the movement grasps, as it is beginning to do, new intersections: misogyny, the absence of women in decision-making, runaway climate change, nasty deportations, growing isolationism, racism and obscene wealth, we are moving forward. We are not going away. There were 20% more participants than last year. They say five million.
Seventy-six percent of Canadians report they are aghast at the state of American politics. It is an unruly state of affairs. Worrisome, therefore. The craven Republicans can't seem to haul the president in. Continue Reading >Here<
